CLASSIFICATION OF DIABETES MELLITUS

The staging and classification of diabetes has of late, been subjected to basic alterations in view of newer information on the evolution and clinical behavior of the disease. The old classification system identifies two types of diabetes. They are “type-I” and “type-II”. These two types have also been called as “insulin dependent diabetes mellitus” and “non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus”. These names are descriptive of their clinical presentation. As years gone other types of diabetes have been found and these doesn’t fit into this classification system, so new classification has been proposed. According to the new classification system four types of diabetes mellitus has been identified: they are “type-I”, “type-II”, gestational diabetes and other specific types.
Type-I is caused due to the loss of insulin-producing beta cells in pancreas. This leads to the deficiency of insulin in the body. This type can also be further classified as immune-mediated or idiopathic. Till now there is no preventive measure for type-I Diabetes Mellitus.
Type-II is caused due to insulin resistance or reduced insulin sensitivity i.e., enough insulin is produced in the body and it is not used effectively.
Gestational diabetes is developed only during pregnancies. Gestational diabetes can be treated and requires thorough supervision.

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through. Replica Watches
